I see great value in services like twitter/friendfeed/jaiku/pownce as feedreaders for ‘ordinary’ web users.

Rss has been around for many years however few non techy people use feedreaders. Even when told of their value – being able to see new web content without visiting many sites directly to check for it. An ordinary person’s response is that they are only interested in a few sites, why go to the trouble of setting up a reader.

Twitter is different. It’s more a messaging system, like setting up email or SMS. The value is being able to receive messages you are interested in. Unlike email it is always short and spam free.

Whenever I set up a blog now I always create a new twitter account for it and push the blog’s rss feed into it via twitterfeed. I can see twitter becoming the major source of traffic for blogs.
