Your mantra is excellent - useful, interesting, relevant - but I would make a case for ensuring simply that the same rules apply to Tweets as to any verbal utterances you make. And why shouldn't they?
In an ideal world, my Tweets would use the acronym THINK:
True - Helpful - Interesting (or Inspiring, if you can!) - Necessary - Kind.
Social media are those media and contexts that you connect in constantly. I believe, if you try to build a 'firewall' between, say, work Tweets and everyday, social Tweets, you miss the point of Twitter and the people who inhabit the Tweetoir!
So, in my Twittering, you will find lots of commentary on politics, books, rugby and almost anything that floats into my muddled brain. The art is to learn how to skim-read!

Hi Tracy

thanks for the reply, and you make a very valid point about the "why" in connection to developing ideas, campaigns and strategies, and your other article (which i enjoyed) address's the SMART.

I read an interesting article the other day http://tinyurl.com/3c2tff3 that address's the fact that the end user, in this current age, is changing in the way their brain functions work. (i see this all the time in my life, and am very aware that the human brain is developing in it's ability to process information, be it at a more superficial level at the moment.

This change implies that the content we deliver must be more engaging, or it implies that we must re-train the young people when we get access to them in order for them to adopt an ability to focus on one thing once again.

Not sure how that relates to the topic in question, but worth thinking about

Dan. Really well done. I think you've done a good job to put a marker down as a leader in something like this.

Only one word of warning re your comment 'We now have big plans for all the technologies.' I am a firm believer that we shouldn't develop plans for technologies, but that we should be developing plans for engaging with audiences, and if a technology suits those plans, then great. But don't let yourself be guided by the technology (what I refer to as putting the 'how' before the 'why'). Give me a yell if you ever need any help with that process of making sure everything you do in this field actually aligns to organisation objective. Take care not to slip into being a college that does lots of whizzy things with technologies but without clear objectives driving them (see my recent post on objective setting here). There are already too many people in our sector doing this and doing things in a way that won't deliver a return to the organisation. Having skill, support and creativity is a wonderful thing, and should never be stunted. But everything we do must deliver a return and be strategically aligned to what we're trying to achieve as a whole organisation.

Keep up the great work!

Hi Tracy,

Glad you like the prospectus, and I wish i had seen your post 2 years ago, when I discovered AR in June, I had the same reaction as yourself, and could instantly see its potential within education, and the prospectus seemed like an obvious first choice, so that potential students could "meet" past students, and see and hear what they thought of their educational experience.

We now have big plans for all the technologies, and are trying to see how creative we can be with the technologies as they evolve, and we help to develop them.

I'm studying Social Media with @dr4ward at @NewhouseSU, and we were assigned to comment on a blog post. Even though I already tweeted about this post, I really wanted to elaborate more on it. From beginning to end, you make some great points about garnering attention online. You're so right, "building a community for the sake of building a community" is not a substantial reason to have an online presence. In another one of my classes in public relations, I'm learning about how PR professionals are becoming more accountable for articulating how they contribute to the bottom line. Since social media responsibilities are becoming intertwined with PR roles, I think this post emphasizes how your social media activity must actually create measurable results. I'm fortunate to be in classes teaching me this! Thanks for posting! #in Considering following me at @alliemwerner and my class's hashtag, #NewhouseSM4 for tweets on the communications industry

I should add, by the way, that the reason the IE one 'shakes' a bit in places is because they've worked too far the ends of the extreme in terms of canvas size. If you try to zoom in too much, this can happen. It's best to try to manage this by not putting elements in that are too small.

I love the web clipper tool available as a plugin for Firefox and an extension for Chrome, which allow you to clip the contents of web pages straight into evernote - it's a great way of bringing online content to your local device in order to use it as an easily available reference, especially if you go somewhere without connectivity (like the train!).
