2017 Edition: which universities are using Snapchat?

In 2016, we created a list of universities that were currently using Snapchat. With the release of Snap Map, Spectacles and Discover, Snapchat has transformed into more than just an image-sharing platform. Users turn to Snapchat to share snippets of their life on Stories, as well as to follow brands and influencers, to read news stories and to view Stories from cities all around the world.

This week, the Discover section on Snapchat gains an additional Story – and it’s very exciting for all of us working in the education sector. The UK University Our Story will be featured on the Discover section of Snapchat. This Story is geofenced to university locations and enables students to upload campus snaps whilst at university. This a great opportunity for universities to engage with students and create content for a university-focused visual forum.

We always need to consider how to best use our content on different platforms, and this is no exception. Snapchat’s updates give us a chance to experiment with new visual technologies (for example, Spectacles) to more effectively engage our audiences. Your Stories will disappear after 24 hours – so what’s the harm in a little experimenting with your Snapchat content?

Because of these new Snapchat developments, we’ve updated our list of universities using Snapchat. On our new list below, you’ll see that the amount of central university accounts has more than doubled, with a rise in students’ unions using Snapchat too. Which universities are in the directory?
