CEAC 2019 talks that we’re excited to see

HE professionals working in marketing, communications, fundraising and alumni relations will be gathering in Birmingham next week, for the CASE Europe Annual Conference 2019. And of course, some of the Pickle Jar Communications team will be there too!

If you’re joining us in Birmingham, you might be wondering which of the many fantastic talks you should see. To offer a helping hand, here are a few of our top picks:

1. HE Ivory Tower: Making Education Accessible to Everyone through Authenticity.
Jonathan Williams, CRM, Creative Services and Content Manager, Keele University

Jonny was one of our highest scoring speakers at ContentEd 2019 where he delivered a session on emotion as a superpower.

He was cited as a passionate, fun, engaging, upbeat and inspiring speaker, who had put a lot of thought into his session. With two of our favourite words, accessibility and authenticity, in the title, we are sure this will be unmissable.

2. Trade, Talent and Tourism – How Universities Are Increasingly Driving Creativity and Collaboration in Place-Marketing.
Richelle Quinn, Senior Marketing Business Partner at Sheffield Hallam University

Richelle was also a speaker at ContentEd 2019 where she delivered a session on six key questions when developing a content strategy. Her talk was a great success, so expect plenty of valuable insight in this session on place-marketing.

3. 2019 Is The Year Of The Podcast – Here’s Why Higher Ed Needs To Be Involved.
Dave Musson, Head of Community and Content, The Access Platform

We’re a big fan of podcasting at Pickle Jar Communications. The medium offers another channel through which education organisations can reach their audiences. Dave is a keen podcaster himself and will bring his own experience to this talk about one of the fastest-growing opportunities for communication.

4. Oil Your Creative Cogs With Content Strategy.
Simon Fairbanks, Senior Content Strategist, Pickle Jar Communications

Our very own Simon Fairbanks will combine his experience as both a published author and senior content strategist for Pickle Jar Communications to offer practical tips for delegates who need help with creativity.  He will outline how content strategy can give individuals the inspiration to flourish, generating the ideas and content to make you stand out.

5. Using Kindness As Your Guide. How Kindness Can Improve Your Leadership, Deliver Better Results And Create A Healthy, Happy Team.
Susie Hills, Joint CEO & Co-Founder, Halpin Partnership Shaun Horan, Joint CEO & Co-Founder, Halpin Partnership

This session in the fundraising track looks at how using kindness and empathy as guiding principles can be good for both team morale and achieving your fundraising goals. Our CEO, Tracy Playle, has previously blogged about the importance of empathy-mapping when considering your audience.

6. Coping With Crisis – A Live And Interactive Workshop.
Justin K. Shaw, Chief Higher Education Consultant, Communications Management Tim Watkinson, Director, Communications and Advocacy, University of Nottingham

This session has been on the CEAC programme previously, and I remember there was standing room only, with some delegates being turned away at the door. This promises to be a useful and practical workshop for people who want to better hone their communication and crisis management skills.

7. Creating A User-Focused Website That Saves You Time.
Pamela Agar, Associate Director for Projects (External Relations, Communications and Marketing), St George’s, University of London

Pamela Agar, former member of the Pickle Jar Communications Team, will show you how to structure and connect your content, so it works as hard as possible for you. She will draw upon three recent redesign projects to offer valuable insight.

We developed the content strategy for Pamela’s institution, St George’s, which won the Collaborator Award at the ContentEd Awards in June.

8. Working With Academics – What You Need To Know.
Cathy Brown, Director of Strategy and Operations, Office of the Vice Provost, UCL

For those coming to the Newcomers’ Fast-track on Monday 26 August, this session will give you valuable insight into what it’s like to work with academics, and how to understand their pressures and needs. Our own Senior Content Strategist, Simon Fairbanks, will be on this panel to share his experiences from his previous roles at four different universities.

And lastly…

After all those sessions, we hope you find time to visit the Pickle Jar Communications stand in the exhibition hall. We would love to hear about your current communications projects. Our team has solved content challenges for more than 170 education institutions in 25 countries. Come visit us for some free advice.
