University of Liverpool: training programme to help develop online connections with business

The University of Liverpool knew that there was great potential that comes from academic members of staff connecting with industry and business representatives online. And many academics were also interested in raising their own profile by harnessing the power of social media and online networks.

But they weren't entirely clear where to begin.

That's where Pickle Jar Communications came in.

Initially we were asked to deliver in-person training sessions on site at the University in 2018 to a number of academic staff. These sessions were 3 hour long workshops, with many interactive elements.

Building on the success of the in-person sessions, we were then asked to turn the workshop into an online training programme. We repurposed the materials that we had already created, and turned them into a seven-part online training series, with a workbook to accompany the learning.

Sessions were:

  • Introduction and welcome to the training

  • Module 1: What do you need to achieve?

  • Module 2: Understanding your audience

  • Module 3: Choosing your tools and platforms

  • Module 4: Exploring LinkedIn

  • Module 5: Exploring Twitter

  • Module 6: Creating a realistic action plan.
